Having lived in this area for most of my life, I've heard, seen, and experienced the dangers of Great Falls and the greater Potomac River many times. Both above and below the falls, the river looks peaceful on the surface, but looks are deceiving: swift currents and jagged rocks lay a few inches below. I ran with a crew that used to cliff jump a few miles upstream. Idiots, all of us.
